My name is Jeannie. I have always loved it. Normal but not common which is the combo I'm looking for with my 2nd child.

My grandmother's name was Hermina. I've never seen it on any list...

Some of my fave names at the moment are Melissa, Olivia, Sophia, Mary Ellen, Mary Kate, Mary Anne, Sara Anne, Elizabeth, Katherine, Stacie, Lucy, Lucia, Stacia, Charlotte, Chantelle, Annabelle, Danielle, Josephine, Alexa, Jaime, Susannah, Hannah, Alice and Nicole.
My name is Laura Nicole, I never knew of any one else with Nicole as a middle name but now I have heard of HEAPS! Laura is common too but I still like it, and prefer it to Lauren, Loretta, and even Lora. I know some people with names such as Shania, Shevannah, Micah and Indiarna (girls not boys) and I think they are quite unique. (except that I know about 4 Shanias.) Most Micahs I've heard of are usually boys, but I prefer it as a girl name.
My other middle name is Maynard, after my great-great-Grandmother Emily Maynard. She had a ring and when her daughter turned 17 she passed the ring down to her. Then when HER daughter was 17 the ring became hers, and so on. Now my Mum has the ring and in 4 years I will receive it. It is gold and has 2 rubies and 3 diamonds. It is so beautiful.
Anyway, the names on this list are great. There are so many I like.

I always thought of Lydia, Fleur and Elsie to be semi-old-fashioned, but now I actually hear of them a lot! (Fleur only because I didn't know any kids with this name, only adults...)
Another more old-fashioned name I love in Bronwyn.

I'm only 13 but i love to write short stories and these names are so fun to make characters out of. Like Sophronia and Arrabella are beautiful names. The personalities and images just come to mind instantly. *Cordelia made me think of Buffy the Vampire slayer.*

It’s always interesting to see which names come back into fashion, and which don’t. Why is this? Is it purely based on their sound? Or is it the image the name conjures up in your mind?

I think it’s a combination of both. Names like Gladys, Herbert and Herman just sound old and it's difficult to imagine them ever coming back into fashion. I feel parents generally turn to older names because of family tradition or history. These days it has become much more fashionable to create either unique names, or more common names with unique spellings. => http://allbabythings.net

I was lucky enough not to be given an overly common first name, Natalie and I can safely I never got a nickname from it not even 'nat'.
The names that I am swaying towards for my children are:
Girls - Kendal & Tiana
Boys - Tristan & Byron
Some other names that I love are Cara-grace, Eva, Leon, Caiden, Lola, Fraya

Hope this might help someone :)

I absolutely adore the names you have here! I especially loved how you listed 'Doctor'. My whovian senses were tingling!
I've always adored my name because of how unique it was. My grandmother is French, so she adores it even more. My name, by the way, is Soleil Èlan, pronounced So-lay E-lan. Soleil is French for sun, or sunshine. I haven't met a Soleil in my time and adore the name. I also find it funny when people try too spell it or pronounce it without me helping them. I wasn't bullied for it either.

I like names that are not too popular. My sons are Jansen Michael, Grant Timothy, and Elijah Cain. DO NOT call a child by their middle name. It has been awful my whole life to be called by my middle name and I wouldn't wish the trouble on anyone.

So my name is Alex Chae Slick; Chae as in Shay and Alex isn't short for anything. I'm seventeen and I despise my name. Everyone a: tells me it's a boys name or b: asks if it's short for anything. I strongly urge you to never name your daughter a boys name or at least a long female version of a boys name. I've been writing under a pen name for seven years now, Chaeann, and my whole family calls me by my middle name because I hate my first name. Even my niece calls me Aunt Chae.

My favorite names in writing, which I have used already, are
Girls:
Briony
Lillie
Adalise
Julianna
Vera
Emelie
Myrna
Payne
Boys:
Brydn
Percival (Percy for short)
Lucan
Lark
Lennox
Aurelius
Keion
Julius or Julian
Kellen
Jasper
Emmett
