Peter Garrett Midnight Oil Hypocrite of Hypocrites

Hypocrisy - the act of pretending to have beliefs, opinions, virtues, feelings, qualities, or standards that one does not actually have. Perfect description for Australia's so-called Environment Minister, Peter Garrett - ex lead singer for Midnight Oil - as he passes a law for a new uranium mine.

Here's what he said just two years ago -

Peter Garrett Hypocrite
"I have always maintained...that our country is as far into nuclear activities as it ever should be...I have long been opposed to uranium mining, and I remain opposed to it. I am unapologetic about this. In fact, I am proud of it.

This is, mind you, from the same guy who made a fortune wailing anti-uranium mine songs in the Seventies and Eighties and was a candidate for the Nuclear Disarmament Party at the 1984 general election before winning a seat in Parliament in 2004 for Labor.

Australian Federal Opposition leader Malcolm Turnbull mocked Garrett, as well he might, with

"He spent his whole life denouncing uranium mining and wanting to shut it down," Turnbull said. "Now he's opening a new one."

This decision also comes from the same greenie who spent a decade as president of the Australian Conservation Foundation before agreeing to stand in a safe Labor seat.

"I have always maintained"...that Peter Garrett was an asshole and a fraud. Seems I was right all along. Poor fellah my country.

Nuclear spokesman for the Greens, Scott Ludlam, said baldie's comment that the proposed Four Mile uranium mine, 550km north of Adelaide, would be world's best practice was "unfounded and bordered on delusional".

"This acid-injection uranium mine will dump liquid radioactive waste into the regional groundwater body and the minister is trying to argue this won't damage the environment,"

BTW this is the same Environment Minister that recently approved a massive pulp-mill in Tasmania. A pulp-mill that will not only turn old-growth timber into wood-chips but will have have a HUGE affect on the environment. Good one Garrett - you Muppett.
