Cheaters

My American mate has done a survey on Cheating - very high-brow stuff. Let me explain - he's a Private Detective and apparently a fair chunk of his work comes from people who suspect their husbands or wives may be doing the dirty on them. So he gathers the evidence as it were. Here's his survey results. Participants were asked a simple question - "would you cheat if you could get away with it?".

(I know the answer to that one already)

The survey conducted in March, 2009 was conducted by Atlanta private investigators and was conducted by gathering participants from Social Networks Twitter, Facebook and Craigslist. The survey was limited to 4,000 participants.

“The results were staggering”, said my mate Niall Cronnolly. “We reached the maximum number of respondents in just 3 hours!”

The survey participants were asked two simple questions:

1. Are you male or female?

2. You have the option to cheat on your significant other. Your significant other will never find out about it, and will never know. In fact, nobody would ever find out or know, except you and your new lover. Under these circumstances, KNOWING YOU WOULD NEVER GET CAUGHT, would you consider cheating?

The results are as follows:

Number of participants: 4,000

Breakdown of gender participating:

Male Participants: 57%
Female Participants: 43%

Percentage who said they would cheat if they could get away with it:

Male: 50%
Female: 50%

A study conducted in 2002 by the Journal of Couple & Relationship Therapy, revealed that that 45-55% of married women and 50-60% of married men engage in extramarital sex at some time or another during their relationship. The March 2009 survey conducted by the Atlanta private detective agency shows that the statistics are still similar 7 years later.

Which just goes to show that nothing changes. But really - its a hypothetical isn't it? And it's emotionally driven. So tell me this - Would you cheat on your partner if you could get away with it? As in, no one will ever find out Can I have a raise of hands please?

(I'm not buying into the argument - "her indoors" would kill me - sometimes i find her snooping on this blog).
