Harry Winston Paris Robbed of €50M Jewellery
Harry Winston
in Rue Montaigne, Paris - the jewellery store to the rich and famous has been robbed of an estimated €50M worth of diamonds and jewellery yesterday. Apparently the thieves took the lot - everything on display plus pieces in the vaults.
The three robbers even knew the names of some of the shop's employees and knew exactly where to look to find jewels that were not on display. Inside Job anyone?
Harry Winston's Paris store was knocked off almost a year ago on a Saturday morning when armed robbers stole an estimated €10 million worth of valuables.
A $2.8 million diamond was part of the haul in that raid. It was one of the largest jewelry thefts ever so I'm guessing this heist will eclipse it. Perhaps it's the same gang?
Harry Winston's is now saying the value of jewellery taken in the heist was €85 Million - about $117 Million.
The gang of four included two women. They eluded the high-security surveillance system when bursting into the store at 5:30pm Thursday. They then menaced the staff, hitting some of them, before taking all the jewellry on display plus some in the back rooms.
The whole job took less than 20 minutes.
Hmm...let's presume they unload the goods for 10% - leaves them €8.5 Million - divided by 4 gives them over €2 Million each - nearly $3 Million dollars each. Not a bad mornings work.
Appears two of the robbers were men dressed as women. Gets better and better doesn't it? "Police are looking for 4 men - two of them dressed in drag - who knocked off Harry Winston's Paris store of €85 Million worth of diamond jewellery".
French Police are now saying three of the robbers were disguised as women with long blond tresses, sunglasses and winter scarves. They buzzed the intercom and asked to enter the store just before closing time.
After being buzzed in they entered with a small valise on wheels. Then they pulled out a hand grenade and a .357 Magnum. The robbers smashed display cases and barked out orders — and the names of some of the Harry Winston employees. In French with strong Slavic accents.
There was no time for the police from a nearby station in the luxury district just off Champs Elyssés to react - it was all over in 15 minutes. The robbers took four sacks of emeralds, rubies and chunky diamonds the size of tiny bird eggs valued at more than 80 million euros, or $105 million.
