Australian TV Ad Rips Off Egghead's Lecture

How funny. I came across this quite by chance. Michael Trick tipped me off. And apparently BoingBoing, The Sydney Morning Herald and Ad News have already run it. No matter. I'm taking it from the horse's mouth - the Professor who wrote the lecture. The Ad starts with two models discussing Quantum Theory in their dressing room -

Model 1: But if quantum mechanics isn’t physics in the usual sense — if it’s not about matter, or energy, or waves — then what is it about?

Model 2: Well, from my perspective, it’s about information, probabilities, and observables, and how they relate to each other.

Model 1: That’s interesting!

The commercial then flashes the tagline “A more intelligent model,” followed by a picture of a Ricoh printer.

Scott Aaronson, Assistant Professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at MIT wrote in Quantum Computing Since Democritus -

But if quantum mechanics isn’t physics in the usual sense — if it’s not about matter, or energy, or waves, or particles — then what is it about? From my perspective, it’s about information and probabilities and observables, and how they relate to each other.

The rest of this story is on Scott Aaronson's blog and here's the Ricoh Ad on YouTube -
