Frank Kern Mass Control or Mass Con?

FrankKernMassControlFrankKernBadNewsFrank Kern Busted by FTC!
If you're trying to make a living online, sooner or later you're going to run across an entertaining character called Frank Kern. He's a good old boy from Georgia who apparently has made a killing touting various money-making schemes online and now lives the surfer-dude life in la Jolla, California. The photo on the far left is how he looks now. The one on the left was taken five years ago when he listed his "Relaxes By" as "Driving his BMW M3, hanging out with his wife, or playing tennis". More here at Six Figure Income

Lately he's been fiddling around with video - they're a bit rough and ready but he's a natural behind the camera. And just like all the other online marketers he claims to have a fantastic system to help you make millions online - just like he has. I'm on his email list and he bombards me regularly - sometimes two or three times a week, with the latest get-rich-quick scheme he's flogging. Not only does he promote his own stuff - Mass Control and the new Infomillionaire launched this week - but he seems to be an affiliate of every major online asshole...I mean marketer...out there. Which is a bit of a worry. Some of the stuff he touts is definitely on the nose - like the Australian shonk flogging a Law of Attraction type scheme - "Make as much money as you want! Magically attract your perfect mate!" - based on the teachings (and I use that word lightly) of his fellow-Australian Rhonda Whatsherface's best-selling book The Secret (and the less said about that bullshit the better).
Anyway, although I find Franky-Boy somewhat entertaining I've always been rather sceptical of his claims. If you join his opt-in email list he'll send you all sorts of free information on becoming an online internet marketing millionaire. Some of its useful. Especially if you're a rank beginner. But there's not much meat in the sandwich if you know what I mean. It's all smoke and mirrors. And really - ask yourself one question Why would this guy share with the world his exact scheme for making millions online? There's only one answer isn't there.
But I had to laugh when I saw the latest Frank Kern video. He emailed me -

Remember the guy I told you about in my last video? My best student, who made over $3,800,000.00 in his first two years online?

Turned out the guy was his cousin. No matter. It was somewhat interesting to hear what he had to say. But again, I was sceptical of the claims. But then Kern sends me another video a day later titled Surprise. In this one Frank Kern and his cousin Trey talk to a mate of Trey's who chucked in his real-estate job to try and make money online using the Frank Kern Infomillionaire model - and God aren't they cheesy names these guys come up with. The video has either been compressed wrong or edited in the wrong format or shot in a fairground hall of mirrors - the three of them are seated facing the camera looking and sounding like they've been pulling on the bong all afternoon. But I found it quite interesting anyway. I don't know whether I'd buy a used-car off them though. Here's just a snippet of it -

So I dunno about this guy and his hick cousins. Today I did a Google Search with Frank Kern Conman and Frank Kern scam and Frank Kern asshole and finally Frank Kern dishonest and lookee lookee at what popped up - a November 2003 bust by the Federal Trade Commission on Frank Kern and Instant Internet Empires for operating a chain marketing scheme that necessarily enriches only a few initial participants at the expense of the majority of other participants. The complaint read, in part,

Instant Internet Empires, based in Macon, Georgia, touted the money-making potential of five pre-packaged Internet businesses, promising that buyers could make more than $115,000 a year using the product. For their $47.77 investment, consumers received the right to reproduce the defendants' Web site and the right to try to resell its contents to other consumers, according to the FTC.

To achieve the promised $115,000 in earnings, consumers each would have to sell the product to 2400 additional consumers, who would each need to sell to 2400 additional consumers to achieve the same earnings, according to the FTC. By the third generation of the scheme, participants would need to make more than 13.8 billion sales, more than twice the earth's population, for each of them to achieve the advertised earnings.

The stipulated final judgment and order with Instant Internet Empires and Irwin F. Kern IV, also known as Frank Kern, bars them from making false or misleading income claims, from participating in chain marketing schemes, and from providing others with the means and instrumentalities to violate federal laws. Based on their financial statements, defendants will have to pay back $247,000 to the victims. Should the defendant's financial reports be found to be inaccurate, the total of their ill-gotten gains, $634,222, will become due.

That is a bit of a worry. I've never bought anything off Irwin F. Kern the Fourth - the nearly $2000 price of Mass Control was enough to turn me off but now and again he points me to something interesting - like the guys that were using a program called Traffic Geyser to get videos on the the first page of Google overnight. And as I said he's hitting me up a couple of times a week with every affiliate program under the sun from the usual suspects. And frankly that just gets my back up.

Anyway, now Frank Kern is putting disclaimers on his sites. Like this one on Infomillionaire -

* Results not typical. Your results will vary. You may very well lose money. All business entails risk. To our knowledge, there is no single product in the world that will generate wealth from the mere act of purchasing it. If you find one, let us know. We'll purchase a bunch of them and hand 'em out to you and the rest of our friends.

Frankie seems to think it all a bit of a hoot. But when you go through the Final Judgement there are a few conditions that he should perhaps be taking more note of. Like this -

Failing promptly to investigate any consumer complaint concerning any marketing material used by Defendants or the failure of any product sold by Defendants to meet any representation made in any marketing material used by Defendants...

and another pertinent to anyone who wants a refund -

IT IS FURTHER ORDERED that, for a period of seven (7) years from the date of entry of this Order, in connecton with any business that any Defendant directly or indirectly manages controls or has a majority ownership interest in...maintain Copies of complaint and refund requests (whether received directly, indirectly through any third party) and any responses to those complaints or requests; and Copies of all sales scripts, training materials, advertisements, or other marketing materials.

In other words the Federal Trade Commission are still keeping a close eye on our Frank until October 1, 2010.

The final page of the judgement concludes with -

TRANSFER OF CUSTOMER LISTS IT IS FURTHER ORDERED that the Defendants are hereby permanently restrained and enjoined from selling, renting, leasing, transferring or otherwise disclosing the name address, telephone number, credit card number, bank account number, e-mail address, or other identifying information of any person who paid any money to any Defendant for any product known as "Instant Internet Empires" at any time prior to entry of this Order, in connection with the advertising, promotion, offering for sale, or sale of any business opportunity or business development aid (including but not limited to Instant Internet Empires).

Hmm...now that's interesting. Frank says in one of his recent videos something like the money's in the list. He claims to have an email list of 800,000 names of which probably half are active. I guess technically he's not selling, leasing, transferring or disclosing his List details when he works as an affiliate for other internet marketers.

Here's the FTC Frank Kern Final Judgement document in a downloadable pdf.

Five years ago Frank Kern was asked who was The Person Who Most Influenced His Life. His answer? His grandfather, E. Raymond Smith -

He built an empire starting from nothing and with no formal education. And he did it by always maintaining a high level of integrity and by making sure the people he did business with were happy. The greatest thing he ever did for me was to set a standard to live up to. I'm still working on it.

I am on Frank's emailing list and I don't hardly receive anything from him just up til his launches. Mass Control is a good product. I disagree with this article. Frank even admits his mistakes of the FTC raid. Anyway thanks for the post to the FTC article though.

Thanks for this great info! Why is it that NOBODY in the IM world talks about this? Just like they don't talk about the other guburus that have gotten busted doing various illegal things - like the forum owner fined for cookie stuffing, the "vitamin" manufactured caught making fake supplements - this is a super find and it confirms what my gut has always told me.....that Kern is full of shit, even if he packages it in an entertaining way.

Well I have to strongly disagree with this article. I personally own Frank Kern's Mass Control and it rocks!

I made my money back for the entire course in 3 days using just the bonus he provided.

It's quite obvious your mad about NOT being as successful as him and think it's easier to "beat him down"...

However, everyone is entitled to their opinion even if it is a little skewed from jealousy.

PS. If you want to learn something I suggest you watch my launch coming up at the end of April 2009. I'll do my best to make fun of guys like you!

Mike Hunt above has a dodgey-looking $47 product called "Clickbank Payday" (how original) on a Frank Kern style Landing Page where he promises to show you how "on average I bring in about $10,000 a month from Clickbank". Sure you do Mike. And you've got the bogus Clickbank earnings screenshots to prove it. Along with the bogus "testimonials" from "Pierre", "Brakkenjar" and "Filmore". Love that last one. Were you smoking crack when you came up with that, Bozo?

Yes I know this dope's name is Mike Hill but to me he's "Mike Hunt". BTW his URL is www.askmikehill.com . Hilarious eh? "Ask Mike Hill" or how about "Ask Mike Hunt". What an asshole.

Just found his mugshot - http://www.warriorforum.com/members/mike-hill.html

Ask Mike Hill - "Hey asshole...how's the $10k a month from dodgy Clickwank products going?"

Yes, I disagree as well. I think his stuff is great. Way more valuable than normal shit you buy on the Internet.

Hi, I disagree as well. Having bought his courses I've learnt more about marketing than youll find in any book, anywhere at any time. I just dont think a rant like that i worth shit all.

And the last two comments are from the very same I.P. with no email address left/no website. Moron. Try harder. Didn't Frank teach you how to spam blogs?

I don't have a horse in this race, although I'm on Frank's list and find his emails amusing.

However, I did follow one of his tips in a free video, and it made me about $300. Now maybe that email to my list would have made $300 anyways, don't know, but Frank's video encouraged me to do it (I think it was to use a "here's what I got, here's what it'll do for you, now here's what I want you to do" type sales pitch).

And with that I'm going to go read more of your blog Malcolm. You're name's familiar - did you once manage the Sex Pistols? :)

What has your "making a nice living online" got to to do with this story about Frank Kern and his run-in with the FTC? Moron.

These 'self-proclaimed' gurus are all jokes. Yea they are successful, because they are getting paid $97 per month to hand you shovels to go find gold.

Oh and of course they have some good information here and there, that is simply a shovel made of steel compared to one made of wood. Or a new tool that is going to make YOU searching for gold a bit easier.

Your all searching for gold in the same areas, because they point it to you, meanwhile, while they are getting paid for their shovels, they are around the corner in the gold mines. You are in the pits chomping at dirt.

Cut your IM embilical cord, grab your balls, and take some risks, that is how you become successful.

Just read on a Forum where one guy paid $2000 to go to a Guru Fest. Plus another $1000 for accommodation. Frank Kern's talk was summarised as - "Frank Kern started out with an exercise where he asked us to write down exactly what we want to have in life
(material things) and how much it would cost. This exercise will help to clarify how much we have to make on a
daily basis.
You need to know where you wanna be. You can't reach any goal if you don't have a goal.
What Kind of house
What Kind of car
What kind of vacation
Kid's education
Charity
Taxes
Health Insurance
and so on...
We were asked to give a detailed answer!
I now had to add the cost for everything and sum it up.
This amount divided by 365 will show how much you'll have to make on a daily basis
in order to maintain your dream life."

later session -

"Frank Kern started to talk a bit about mindset.
The following scenario is the mindset of the average guy out there.
He comes home after work and the first thing he does is:
->He mentally Escapes (watch TV, News, negative information about how horrible the economy is etc.)
this leads to:
->Mind of Fear and Wasteful Actions (Browsing Forums, Gossip, wasting time on Youtube etc.)
this leads to:
->State of Frustration, Anger and Disappointment (getting absolutely nothing done)
this again leads to:
->The wish to escape
This is a very dangerous cycle and we can all fall into this trap, I guess we all do once in a while. How much can
somebody with this mindset achieve? Not too much.
Now let's have a look at the second circle that Frank mentioned.
This one starts with
->Right actions, trying to do the right thing that helps you or your business the most.
This will lead to a:
->Positive Expectancy ('I can do this')
which will lead to:
->Right work (focusing on the key aspects of your work)
which will lead to:
->Positive Results (encouragement)
which again leads to:
->Right Actions"

"You should by now have your sentence where you determined what you want to sell, to whom, at which price
and when you want to achieve that.
Here is the next important step, you have to ask yourself the following question:
What am I willing to give/do in order to achieve my goal?
It's important that you answer this question. How much time are you willing to invest, how much money are you
willing to invest and so forth.
Once you have decided what you want to create and what you are willing to give/do you're finally ready
to take the Right Action.
It's tough to know what the right action could be if you don't have a goal or plan. Now you know what you want
and what you're willing to give and you can determine what action you have to take to achieve this.
Doing the right things will feel absolutely great as you don't have the feeling anymore of wasting your time, you
are working toward your exact goal (what product, how much you want do make day by day etc.) and this will
eventually lead you to the Right Mindset !!!

Next Session

"Attracting the right customer.
It's just as easy to sell high ticket items as it is to sell cheap stuff
Try to graduate your customer
example.
Frank released Infomillionaire for newbies so that they can learn the basics. This product was free and people
could chose to joint on a monthly basis (free/monthly payment of 50$)
After teaching them the basics you'd try to get them into your more advanced product, which would be Mass Control in Frank's case (2,000$ one time payment with the option to get the newsletter for 300 bucks a month)
Once they've mastered that you'd try to offer them personal coaching or access to a platinum
mastermind group <b>(People pay 3,000$ to join Frank's mastermind group)
Frank also accepted two clients for his coaching/private attention (100,000$ each!)</b>
That's what he means with graduating your customer. He gets them with a free offer which is connected to a
monthly program, he then upgrades them to a high ticket product, also connected to a monthly program and he
then upgrades them to a mastermind group. That's what I call a sales funnel :)
Next exercise.
Ask yourself who you want as a customer. In detail. It's better to have customers who are willing to pay for a high
ticket item as they have less complaints and they're easier to deal with.
So ask yourself this question, who do you want as a customer?
Gender, Income, Profession, Views about your type of products, Do they share your perspective/philosophy,
What qualities are a must have, What does instantly qualify them ..
Answer every question!
This will help you to determine who your perfect customer would be. Without this information you can't attract
your perfect customer as you don't know who they are. Now that you know, you can create your
product/price/sales page and so on targeting your perfect audience.
Now that you know what product you want to create and who your perfect customer would be, imagine creating
an ad consisting of a couple of sentences in which you try to attract your perfect customer.
Let's say your product is coaching and you want to create an ad.
It could look like this:
Looking for a goal driven and determined guy who wants to make extra money online. You should be new to
online marketing and you should have a budget of at least 1k to spend for promotion.
This is an important exercise. Don't just think about your customer, write it down! In this example the person
doing the exercise wanted his customer to have the following qualities:
-being male -goal driven and determined -looking for an extra income through internet
-new to Internet Marketing – budget of at least 1k
Now he actually knows who his perfect customer is and he can now start to attract the right people by creating
his ads/product/sales letter targeting his favorite customer. Attracting the right customers will give you piece of
mind as you're going to deal with the people that you want to be in touch with. You are going to deal with people
who are interested and qualified for what you have.

People who purchase gurukuku's stuff either never admit they make little money, don't take action or lie saying they "used just one tip and made 100' or 1000'". Jokers.

Good luck Mal with these morons (Mike Sick included). Gurukuku's are semi-gods in this shitty industry, so "don't touch them" (read: kill them, but sure you won't succeed, because the fan clubs are defending them strongly -- but I have no idea why).

These people never succeeded during their life until they discovered the *magical world of IM* and its liars. Easy way to make a lot of money selling dreams to frustrated people (easy targets...)

I was on Frnk Krn email list and received 2-3 emails per week as well. I unsubscribed after 3 weeks. Not Mr. Fr J Vtl (1-2 emails per day), but still very annoying.

I'm not leaving contact info, simply because I don't want to deal with hateful angry people.

If you're cool... different story.

I own the 2.0 course... and it's freakin' dope. I mean, really good stuff. If you're looking for some magic MLM bean/vitamin/energy drink/matrix crap you will be greatly disappointed.

Bottom line is, the best way to not worry about crappy customers is jack up the price. People who buy your stuff will see the value. ...pretty simple.

However... the only way to avoid criticism is to never attempt to do anything worth while.

Everybody has the right to have an opinion. Some people love it, some people hate it... that's life.

But spending time talking crap about people on the internet could explain the amount (lack) of success some of you have experienced.

I'm not sayin'... I'm just sayin'.

Hope the best for all of you guys,
Cohawk

..and yes, let the crap talking begin from someone who disagrees and wants to tell me how ugly and stupid I am. If you do... I'm telling my mom.

Frank Kern is a complete scam - if he was straight up he would provide a membership cancellation option on your membership page; he does not. The entire infomillionaire product is based on people being too lazy to contact their bank to have the credit card transactions cancelled. End of story. I was a member, and am in the process of getting it cancelled. Do not buy any product from Frank Kern or his co-scam artist Trey Smith. Look out for some warning videos to be posted on YouTube.

Malcolm, Thank you very much for this post. I am on this guy's list and like you, I find him entertaining. I must admit that I very tempted to go for one his programs, never did though. I think the "Forced Continuity" model he uses is a complete scam BS. The only way to learn this stuff ids to do it yourself and learn as you go.

I recently watched a video from Frank Kern where he was talking about the very first IM product he created and released, the one that got him busted by the FTC.

He talked about how miserable his life was because he would walk around paranoid, wanted to avoid his customers, and was generally upset because he knew it sucked.

If you fast forward to now with Mass Control everything is different. People who are using it are having a lot of success because of what it teaches you - creating, launching an info product, cultivating your list, etc..

You can't get angry at marketers for being marketers. They will of course upsell to thousand dollar private coaching programs BECAUSE there is a demand for it. IM is not the only industry that does this, look at the seduction training industry - its exactly the same.

There are plenty of self-loathing unsuccessful skeptics that refer to themselves as idiots and sprout up sites like this. Not really worth the comment but I need to keep myself entertained between work.

@ Andrew "Knew it sucked"? You mean "knew it was a blatant con". As for "There are plenty of self-loathing unsuccessful skeptics that refer to themselves as idiots and sprout up sites like this. Not really worth the comment but I need to keep myself entertained between work." - I'm Australian - we don't take ourselves too seriously. So go shove your comment up your arse.

BTW I notice you recommend PHPBay on your blog. Way off the pace. That'll get you banned from EPN sooner rather than later. And they recommend you register and use tradenames??? Like "eddiebauer.org". Yeah right. Have a look at "WPMage" MisterBloodyKnowItAll.
August 28, 2009 | Registered CommenterMalcolm Lambe
Friend, you're thinking of BANS not Phpbay.

Since Ebay is going to change their revenue model to CPC it's probably not even going to perform as well as it has anymore. No more high paying ACRUs anymore, if I'm correct.

I'm starting to create optins and launch info products for all of the niche sites I've built.

In this aspect, Mass Control has helped me a fair amount because I'm charting unfamiliar territory with projects like these and it makes for a good guide.

About 1,000 dollars overpriced, but good nonetheless.
August 28, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterAndrew Scherer
Mass Control - what a crock. I've just got a message from eBay and my earnings will go UP under the new QCP.

And NO, I didn't mean BANS. Here's what you say - "3. Get PHPBay!

I’ve tried BANS, all I can say is it pretty much sucks. I felt really trapped with BANS, and I’ve heard Google is really slapping BANS sites so I would advise against using them.

One reason I like PHPBay is there’s just so much flexibility. The programmer Wade has made a ton of improvements since he first released it. Now you can put in Ebay auction listings on your Wordpress site and they won’t even look like auction listings."

(Any caring, human soul, would pass this on...)

As I expected, my comment posted yesterday was not included. Frank is a crook! Do you require further proof? What Tony is doing here is *promoting* the other two, who in turn are now promoting him for profit! The majority of comments on this page end in links to other sites pushing similar *snake oil* i.e., The Promise Of Success by *selling* The Promise Of Success -- Good thing I made a screen capture of my earlier post before it was moderated and deleted. I am extremely successful, so I do not require a link back to my site. I am sick of hearing from good people who lose their money to crooks like Frank Kern! You are about to witness the true power of the internet, and how quickly reputations are made then lost. You should know better, Tony Robbins, and act to correct this. (I had my fingers crossed.)

There is NO info product in existence worth $2000 ... period. That is a ConMan's price ... if you paid it ... then you were conned. If you paid it ... and then started showing up to blog posts to aggressively defend you stupid decision against the part of your mind that knows you made a stupid decision ... then you are half way to being a ConMan yourself.
